The Big Bang Theory wrapped up after 12 seasons. The decision to end the series was not an easy one. Jim Parsons struggled behind the scenes and was nervous to reveal that his contract would not be renewed. Ultimately, the cast revealed that it was the correct decision, but the way it came about received mixed reactions from those behind the scenes.
was among those that were blindsided by the decision. at the start. We're going to reveal why Galecki felt the way he did, and why Chuck Lorre admitted that he should have handled the situation differently.
We'll also take a look at a major reveal made in book, as Johnny Galecki suggested that almost ended a couple of years prior.
Jim Parsons' departure, along with the reveal that was ending was all very sudden behind the scenes. During the first table read, Jim felt it was necessary to inform the creators about his status, and how it would be his last season. This reveal would lead to an immediate team meeting, and one that shocked the entire cast.
According to, with the rest of the cast.
The publication writes, "In the meeting, creator Chuck Lorre immediately handed things over to Jim Parsons, which he now says might've been a misstep.
Jim revealed to the cast that he was leaving the show, and Chuck said he "didn't see a path forward without Sheldon."As expected, the decision had the cast feeling mixed emotions. While Galecki and Cuoco were irate that they weren't warned ahead of time, , acknowledging that Jim was simply honoring his contract length.
"In terms of the actual, I guess what you could call the cancelation of the show, that occurred in [that] meeting, where we were informed by Chuck that the show was done. That's what I found to be the most upsetting."
"Jim didn't cancel our show. Jim just finished the run of our show as we all did, contractually, and no one ever asked us to continue doing the show.
However, Galecki wasn't as understanding at the start, and almost stood up during the meeting.
Johnny Galecki didn't disagree with the show ending and in fact, he revealed that Leonard would not have been as entertaining without Sheldon by his side. However, the actor wasn't pleased with how the reveal went down. Galecki wished Parsons would have warned the cast ahead of time, or at least could've chosen to have a conversation given that they had been like a family for more than a decade.
During Jim's exit announcement, Galecki almost got up and confronted his co-star, given all his castmates were sobbing following the reveal.
Galecki revealed, "There was a part of me that almost stood up and said I'm not going to sit here and watch the people I love be so hurt," Johnny continued. "But I stopped myself from doing so and I hugged [Jim] instead. Still, that's what literally went through my mind because it was tearing me to shreds watching Kaley break down and see the tears from everyone."
"I was shocked. We were just blindsided that day. And not necessarily shocked by Jim's decision, but that he hadn't had that conversation with his castmates first to prepare us.
So yes, it could have been handled better. We're a family; have a conversation."The show wrapped up during season 12, however, Cuoco and Galecki had thoughts of ending it a couple of seasons prior.
There are several major reveals in book. Among the big reveals, includes Johnny Galecki's reveal that he had a conversation about possibly ending the show during season 10. Galecki spoke to Cuoco about the possibility, but it seems like things did come to fruition.
Given the way Johnny feels about Jim's approach, we have reason to believe the actor would've handled things differently, and likely told the entire cast prior. But perhaps the thoughts weren't serious enough to brief the others.
Nonetheless, Galecki agreed it was time to end the show once Jim Parsons stepped down. As for Kaley Cuoco, it was tough for her at the start, and shooting the final season wasn't easy either. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed by the time the finale came around.
