Tom Hanks is one of the biggest movie stars in the world.

And fellow movie star Julia Roberts spoke out about the 63-year-old in the upcoming issue of People magazine.

She said of her former co-star: 'What doesn't change about Tom, he is as happy and excited as ever.'

Tom and Julia, 52, starred together in the 2007 movie Charlie Wilson's War and the 2011 film Larry Crowne.

Tom, who beamed on the cover of the magazine with his arm propped up against his mouth, says he enjoys being part of a team while filming.

He explained: 'I like being part of an ensemble. Anybody can make it a miserable day by being cranky or self-centered, by thinking it's all about them instead of all about the whole.'

Tom's next film A Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood was released on Friday; he plays television icon Fred Rogers.

His co-star Matthew Rhys, who plays journalist Lloyd Vogel in the drama, playfully lamented of him 'how viciously well-read, well-informed and intelligent he is.

Adding: 'It's like dear god, it's sickening! I get it, you've got the world's generosity and acting talent, that's fine, but he's a real mind. He has a great mind, which is equally as infuriating.'

Director Ron Howard said of Tom: 'He loves smart people saying smart things. Whether he likes what they're saying or not... He invites honesty from those who are close to him, not in a self-flagellating, neurotic way, but with a clear-eyed intelligence.

Ron directed Tom in the 1984 movie Splash and the 1995 film Apollo 13.

The director said sometimes his acting talent is overlooked because 'he's that good. He's like one of those athletes who is so effortless that you don't realize he's the game-changer.'

Tom is married to actress and singer Rita Wilson; the duo originally met on the set of the comedy Bosom Buddies, which ran from 1980 to 1982.

They were reunited on the set of Volunteers in 1985; the lovebirds married three years later in 1988 and welcomed two sons: Chester 'Chet', 29, and Truman, 23.

He has two children from his first marriage with actress Samantha Lewes: Colin, 42, and Elizabeth, 37.
