In recent times, it seems you'd be hard pressed to find a Hollywood star who hasn't undergone some kind of cosmetic surgery.

And, following the controversy over actress Renee Zellweger's transformed appearance, it's surprising to hear of one star who not only hasn't gone under the knife, but thinks her career could actually suffer for it: Julia Roberts.

'By Hollywood standards, I guess I've already taken a big risk in not having had a face-lift,' she revealed to You magazine.

'But I've told Lancome that I want to be an ageing model - so they have to keep me for at least five more years until I'm over 50,' the 46-year-old added, referring to her ongoing role as the face of the brand's perfume La Vie Est Belle.

The actress, who can boast an Oscar award among many other accolades, has accredited a healthy  and wholesome lifestyle - including yoga with friends - to remaining happy as she ages.

'It's about non-grasping, non-hoarding, cleaning out your closet, dusting out your mind and letting go of the things that weigh you down mentally and emotionally,' she revealed.

'There's a lightness to my life now - an airy quality of not taking things too seriously. That's happiness.'

The Pretty Woman star's comments about her appearance came as she stepped out in Los Angeles on her way to an appointment on Sunday, rocking a low-key but not unglamorous look.

Wearing her long, blonde locks tied up in a scruffy pony tail and with stylish Ray Ban sunglasses, her striking cheekbones and full lips were on full display.

The actress sported a a comfy baggy black jumper and fitted jeans, adding a pop of colour with a bright orange scarf.

She looked ready for business as she carried with her a large tote bag and a laptop computer. 

Accompanying her on her day out were two of her children: she has three with husband of 12 years Danny Moder, twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, and Henry.

Julia, who is due to turn 47 on Tuesday, is famed for being one of the movie industry's most stunning stars (as well as one of its most talented) with desirable natural looks.

It's fair to say she hasn't changed much since rising to fame in the late 80s in films such as Mystic Pizza, Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman.

Meanwhile, her Hollywood colleague Renee recently caused a stir when the 45-year-old stepped out looking like a new woman.

However, she stood up for her new look, which she debuted at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards last Monday.

'It seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth, which doesn't exist won't get off my porch until I answer the door,' she told People magazine.

'I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows.' 

She added: 'My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy,'
