Julia Roberts donned a dark outfit in Malibu Thursday, as the A-lister stepped out to shop for groceries and vintage clothes on the overcast spring day.

The 51-year-old actress was chic in a black dress with a multicolored blue and gray coat with floral patterns, and black clog shoes.

The Academy Award winner's reddish-blonde locks were parted in the middle and she wore black sunglasses and a necklace while toting a leather purse.

The Smyrna, Georgia native, who shot to super-stardom playing Vivian Ward in the 1990 rom-com Pretty Woman opposite Richard Gere, was hailed earlier this week by actress Samantha Barks, who plays Ward in the Broadway production of the film, Pretty Woman: The Musical.

'She's so beautiful,' Barks told Broadway.com Wednesday of Roberts. 'She created this incredible character. She is magic ... she's such a warm person.'

Barks opened up about the 'surreal moment' she had when she crossed paths with Roberts when she attended the show last summer.

'She hugged me, and we just stayed in a hug,' the 28-year-old performer told the publication.

'I was like, "Is this real life? Is this actually happening?"'

Banks said that Roberts - who earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination in 1991 for the part - 'was so kind to [her] about what [she'd] done in the role,' adding that 'to have her blessing was a dream come true' and that 'you can't ask for more.

'

Roberts revisited the famed role last month while speaking with The Guardian, telling the publication that the dynamics of the storyline - a business magnate falling in love with a prostitute he hired - might not resonate as well 29 years after its March 1990 release.

'I don't really think you could make that movie now, right?' Roberts said.

'So many things you could poke a hole in, but I don't think it takes away from people being able to enjoy it.'

Roberts noted the lucky twist of fate she experienced in receiving the role after a number of actresses - including Demi Moore, Valeria Golino and Daryl Hannah - had turned it down, according to iMDb.

'It really is not a measure of talent, particularly in the beginning,' she told the outlet of her route to leading lady status. 'It's a measure of good fortune - and being able to have your wits about you enough to make something out of that good fortune.'
