Can there be Young Sheldon without Sheldon? Apparently, yes.
is a spinoff of It was originally intended (as the title suggests) to be a young-nerd-centric comedy that would help fans understand how the boy genius became who he was in the parent show.
But somehow, over the years, the show became less about Sheldon and more about the Cooper family. Each character on the show had a strong personality that fans were eager to explore. The writers of the show really did a great job of developing each family member's storyline and giving them their own space to grow.
And with the season 6 finale, it became absolutely clear that the show doesn't really need Sheldon around as much as we might think.
All of this only points to the fact that Sheldon no longer belongs in the small Texas town and is ready to move out, which he actually did when he left for Germany. And even without him, the family has survived and, more importantly, has a lot to offer the viewers.
And as for the family, they would have some time to breathe and deal with their problem one by one, without constantly worrying about Sheldon. But still being in touch with him. For example, by going together with the boy (one by one).
After his trip to Germany, Sheldon could continue exploring other universities. Since The Big Bang Theory canon states that he won't end up attending these places, Young Sheldon season 7 could have fun one-time stories set on these campuses.
The important thing is that the show will still be about the whole family (and it won’t completely mess up the parent show’s story as well). Because knowing that Sheldon's not leaving Texas for a while keeps his family connections alive.
