"I can cry but I'm not going to": Jim Parsons Nearly Broke Down to Tears Infront of Fans But Not For 'The Big Bang Theory'
2023/08/27

The Big Bang Theory is best known for the portrayal of Sheldon Cooper by actor, Jim Parsons, for which he has garnered four Emmy Awards. Over the course of its twelve seasons, The Big Bang Theory remained one of the most well-liked and lauded shows on television. The show, which was recorded in front of a live audience, received mixed reviews for the first season. However, the second and third seasons earned far better reviews.

Parsons played a pivotal role in The Big Bang Theory, and it is safe to say that this significantly boosted his career. The actor has never felt regret about the part or being typecast.

Instead, he was incredibly appreciative of the opportunity and the impact of such an astounding role.

The actor, however, once broke down in tears while discussing one of the difficult roles. But this time, it was not his acclaimed Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady's created television sitcom.

Jim Parsons Almost Cried But Not For The Big Bang Theory

In one of his earlier appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jim Parsons talked about a variety of topics. This time, the conversation was not exclusively about The Big Bang Theory; instead, the actor discussed the emotional portrayal of his role (Michael Ausiello) in the 2022 Michael Showalter-directed film.

After The Big Bang Theory, Parsons went on to work on an entirely different project, Spoiler Alert. This biographical romantic comedy-drama was based on Michael Ausiello's 2017 autobiography Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies.

Speaking about the role with Jimmy Fallon, the actor admitted that the journey was difficult emotionally, but that the grief it involved made life much better because it prevented him from taking things for granted.

Parsons almost broke down in tears as he described the event and said:

"I can cry, but I'm not going to. Keep it together."

Jim Parsons' career has changed since he was cast as the Ausiello character, as he revealed to Variety (2022):

"I just saw it as this soul that suddenly gets thrust into this jungle and it's like, you're going to have to find a way and that was exciting."

The 50-year-old actor further added:

"It was such a full view of two people who really love each other, two souls that come together and go on this journey together, the ups and downs of that, the coming apart and coming back together and, ultimately, being able to really get about as clear a view of another human being as you can possibly get.

"

Jim Parsons On Quitting The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory on CBS, which ran for 12 seasons, quickly rose to fame, thanks in large part to its brilliant ensemble cast of nerdy comedians, which included Jim Parsons.

Sheldon Cooper, played by Parsons, is one of the most recognizable characters in the entire program and probably the role for which he is still best known. But there comes a point when you have to move on.

Parsons once made an appearance on the David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, where he discussed the emotional process he went through while deciding to finally stop filming the show after more than ten years.

"Our final contract was for the last two years, but no one knew when we signed it what that would mean. I kind of had a suspicion in my heart that that was going to be it for me when I did sign that contract, but you never say never and who knows."

The Great New Wonderful actor went on to say:

"I was exhausted, and I was really upset about, more than anything, one of our dogs was getting really at the end of his life around then."

Given that he won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series four times, Parsons clearly did a commendable job as Sheldon Cooper.

For the unversed, The Big Bang Theory is available to watch on Max, and Michael Showalter's Spoiler Alert is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
