has emerged as a sound, funny, and genuine comedy show among the ever-widening ocean of content. The show was an underdog and within a few seasons, it managed to catch the audience’s fancy and garnered numerous accolades for the Best Comedy show.
exists because of the talent and bullheadedness of Quinta Brunson as she is the writer, executive producer, and lead on the show. She is also known to be outspoken and has been vocal about the lack and misrepresentation of Black people in popular media.
The talented and hardworking creator of appeared on as a host and addressed the gathering with an opening monologue. She used the platform to voice her opinions on Black representation and give a shoutout to her show .
“I wanted to be on SNL back in the day but the audition process seemed long – so instead, I just created my own TV show, made sure it became really popular, won a bunch of Emmys, and then got asked to host,” she quipped, adding: “So much easier, so much easier.”
She continues,
“It’s a network sitcom like, say, Friends. Except, instead of being about a group of friends, it’s about a group of teachers. Instead of New York, it’s in Philadelphia and instead of not having Black people, it does.”
The star went all out and took a jibe at one of the most popular shows of all time. Brunson has some balls and the internet was in awe of her energy and courage.
Before Brunson spoke about not having any black representation many had pointed such discrepancies out. Even the star Jennifer Aniston and finds it problematic while another generation still cannot get enough of it. She said while promoting her film co-starring Adam Sandler,
“There’s a whole generation of people, kids, who are now going back to episodes of ‘Friends’ and find them offensive. There were things that were never intentional and others…well, we should have thought it through…but I don’t think there was a sensitivity like there is now.”
