Since it first aired on NBC back in 1994, Friends has managed to become one of the most popular television series of all time. It's no wonder that during its ten-year run, the series was nominated for more than 60 Primetime Emmy Awards, finally winning the Outstanding Comedy Series award for its eighth season in 2002.
Through the course of its ten seasons, it became widely known that the ensemble cast of Friends was not only playing a tight-knit group of friends in front of the cameras but also had a pretty good relationship behind the scenes. In fact, all six cast members worked together to make sure they were all receiving equal pay when they had to renegotiate their contracts.
Despite how close they seemed to be while working on Friends, Matt LeBlanc didn't receive an invitation to Jennifer Aniston's wedding with Justin Theroux in 2015. Moreover, LeBlanc's response when asked about this topic seemed to point out to a feud with his Friends co-star.
Believe it or not, being an actor wasn't Matt LeBlanc's first career choice. LeBlanc moved to New York when he was only 17 to pursue a modeling career. Unfortunately, he was told he was too short to make it in this competitive industry.
LeBlanc's acting career began by accident after a woman invited him to accompany her to an audition, in which he ended up getting signed by her manager. Shortly after this, LeBlanc had his first TV appearance in a 1987 Heinz Ketchup commercial. A year later, he starred in the television drama TV 101 for one season.
In 1991, he landed a recurring role in Fox's hit sitcom, Married… with Children. LeBlanc even went on to appear in two-short-live spin-offs of this show in the following years. The actor also appeared in several music videos, including Bon Jovi's "Miracle" and "Say It Isn't So", Alanis Morissette's single "Walk Away," and Bob Seger's "Night Moves.
Despite having successfully landed roles in several commercials and TV series, Matt LeBlanc was on the verge of bankruptcy before the role of Joey in Friends. Luckily for him, this sitcom became an instant success.
LeBlanc would go on to portray Joey Tibbiani on all ten seasons of Friends, winning international recognition and many award nominations through the years. After the show came to an end, he even went on to star in a short-lived Friends spin-off series titled Joey.
In 2015, Jennifer Aniston got married to actor and filmmaker Justin Theroux. The pair initially met in 2007 but wouldn't strike up a romance until three years later, when they reconnected on the set of Wanderlust. The pair got engaged in 2012 but waited nearly three years to tie the knot in a small backyard ceremony in their Bel Air home.
Because of their close relationship, fans were shocked to learn that not all of the Friends cast made the invite list to Aniston's wedding. The star would later admit this was because the ceremony was very exclusive, with only about 70 guests in attendance. Only Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow were considered close enough to attend their Friends co-star's big day.
When asked about Aniston's wedding during the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, LeBlanc revealed how he felt after being snubbed an invitation to his Friends co-star's wedding.
"I think they're a great couple. I think she's happy. And that's all I care about is that Jen's happy," LeBlanc admitted, "If she wanted me there, I would have been there."
During its ten-year run, it seemed that the cast of Friends had become close friends in real life.
Unlike other TV shows, it seemed that there were never any rumored feuds or drama between the six main stars of this beloved sitcom. On the contrary, it seemed that everything was going great behind the scenes.Matt LeBlanc seemed to form a good relationship with all of his Friends co-stars. His friendship with Matthew Perry was so great that the pair would often try to troll each other on the set of Friends, making for some iconic unscripted scenes that made the show's final cut.
LeBlanc also seemed to get along well with David Schwimmer, who played Ross.
The actor who portrayed Joey had admitted that he would often find ways to prank Schwimmer between takes. In addition to this, Matt LeBlanc was more than content to come back and appear with his five co-stars for the 2021 reunion special of Friends. Hosted by James Corden, Friends: The Reunion stars the show's main cast as they revisit the original sets used for the series, talk with celebrities who guest-starred in the show, and share behind-the-scenes footage and stories.
