Young Sheldon Season 7 Can Finally Explain Missy In The Big Bang Theory

While Young Sheldon season 7 will likely focus on all of the Cooper family, the season 6 finale already set up The Big Bang Theory spinoff's best route to explaining Missy's story. Missy is a tricky character in Young Sheldon. In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon's sister was something of a non-entity. She rarely visited her brother and, when she did, Sheldon was more concerned with which of his friends she might date than how her life turned out. However, in Young Sheldon, Missy and Sheldon are far closer and the twin siblings were still a big presence in each other's lives.

Much like Young Sheldon changed how viewers saw The Big Bang Theory's Mary, the prequel's insight into Missy's character makes her life story sadder in retrospect.

Missy's teenage rebellion dominated her storyline throughout Young Sheldon season 6, and it was sad to think that, while she remained on civil terms with her mother throughout The Big Bang Theory, Missy was never all that close with Mary. However, Young Sheldon season 7 may offer an explanation for this. Young Sheldon season 6, episode 22, "A Tornado, a 10-Hour Flight and a Darn Fine Ring," saw Missy paired up with her father George Sr. for what may not be the last time.

Young Sheldon's Season 6 Finale Brings George Sr. & Missy Closer

"A Tornado, a 10-Hour Flight and a Darn Fine Ring" saw Missy's rebellion culminate when a tornado left her and her father trapped and facing death.

While the Young Sheldon season 6 finale sent Sheldon to Germany, the small hometown of the Cooper family was destroyed by the tornado that terrorized George Sr and Missy. When the debris settled and everyone survived, Missy promised George Sr. that she would end her teenage rebellion. While her fingers were crossed, Mary's absence from this life-altering event still means that Missy will likely be closer to her father than her mother going forward.

This could be bad news for Missy since The Big Bang Theory canon states that George Sr. dies soon after this season's events. It is not yet clear when this will happen in the sitcom spinoff and Young Sheldon has played fast and loose with The Big Bang Theory's canon before.

However, whenever the event does happen, it will likely be a devastating loss for Missy. It would make sense for Missy to grow closer with her father now that her older brother is busy raising a child of his own and Mary left for Germany with Sheldon. That said, this will make George Sr.'s death even harder on her.

Missy Getting Closer To George Sr. Would Make His Death Harder

If Missy and George Sr. become closer and Mary and Sheldon do the same after their shared Germany trip, this could explain why Mary was never as close to Missy in adulthood as she was to The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon.

It is a sad backstory for their imperfect relationship, but one that honors the importance that George Sr had in both of their lives. Since Young Sheldon's rebellious Missy never got along with Mary, her bond with George Sr. improving over the summer adds up. Sadly, this could lead Young Sheldon's Missy and Mary to associate each other with George Sr.'s death by the time The Big Bang Theory takes place.
