After spending her 'Friends' money carelessly in the early seasons of the show, Jennifer Aniston had an unpleasant lesson to learn. The 54-year-old was questioned in a TikTok video released by PopSugar about her first significant purchase made with money she received from the popular series. Aniston claimed that she had been waiting for her big break to purchase the vintage Mercedes for more than two years.
Aniston, who featured in the popular sitcom for ten years, recently faced criticism on social media after making a comment about how Gen Z views 'Friends'. The lack of diversity and the portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters in the show provoked controversy on social media among fans and critics.
The 'Murder Mystery 2' star claimed she spent her first income from 'Friends' on a $13,000 vintage vehicle that broke down almost immediately. In the PopSugar interview, Aniston added, "I do remember my first big splurge was on a Mercedes that had a for sale sign on it for almost two years," as per Fox News.
Rachel Green of 'Friends' continued saying, "There was a little white 280 SL Mercedes, and it was there for a long time. It could have been over two years. And I always was like, 'I can't wait, someday, someday.' And then one day I bought it. And then I drove it. And then I drove it again and it never drove again"
She explained, "It was a lemon, and that's why it's been sitting there. And I didn't know any better to get it checked out…so that was a nice 25-year-old mistake." During the Instyle podcast interview, 'Ladies First with Laura Brown,' Aniston stated she tried to get it repaired so that the car could still be used.
In the final season of 'Friends', Aniston and her co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow became the highest-paid actresses on television, taking home $1 million each episode.
After Aniston, who portrayed Rachel Green on the hit series, stated that she believed a lot of young people are now finding parts of the episodes troubling, social media users have voiced their opinions on the renowned sitcom 'Friends'. Aniston said, "There were things that were never intentional and others, well, we should have thought it through. But I don't think there was a sensitivity like there is now," per INSIDER.
On Twitter, Aniston's remarks have gained a lot of traction, prompting users to comment on whether they find the show to be insulting or out of date. The lack of racial diversity in the cast, which has been criticized in prior seasons, is one of the show's most prominent criticisms.
